Teething Baby

Teething can be a challenging time for both infants and parents. While there are no definitive herbal treatments that can replace traditional teething remedies, some parents find natural methods helpful in providing relief during the teething process. Here are some herbal options that may be considered:

  1. Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla):

    • Chamomile has calming and soothing properties that may help alleviate teething discomfort.

    • A chamomile tea bag can be cooled and placed in the refrigerator; then, the baby can gently chew on it (under supervision) for soothing relief.

  2. Cloves (Syzygium aromaticum):

    • Clove oil has natural analgesic properties and can act as a mild numbing agent.

    • A small amount of clove oil can be diluted with a carrier oil and applied to the baby's gums with a clean finger or a cotton ball. However, use it sparingly and with caution due to its potency.

  3. Peppermint (Mentha x piperita) and Spearmint (Mentha spicata):

    • Mint leaves have soothing and cooling properties and may provide relief to sore gums.

    • Mint leaves can be gently rubbed on the baby's gums or used to make a weak mint tea to dampen a clean cloth for the baby to chew on.

  4. Calendula (Calendula officinalis):

    • Calendula has anti-inflammatory properties and may help reduce inflammation and discomfort associated with teething.

    • Calendula tea can be cooled and used to dampen a clean cloth for the baby to chew on.

  5. Catnip (Nepeta cataria):

    • Catnip has calming properties and may help soothe a teething baby.

    • Catnip tea can be cooled and used to moisten a clean cloth for the baby to chew or suck on.

  6. Licorice Root (Glycyrrhiza glabra):

    • Licorice root has mild soothing properties that may help alleviate minor discomfort during teething.

    • Licorice root can be used to make a weak tea to moisten a clean cloth for the baby to chew on.
