Ingredients:

  • 200g sugar

  • 200g water

  • 1 cup of fresh sage (or ½ cup of dried sage)

  • 1 cup of fresh thyme (or ½ cup of dried thyme)

Instructions:

  1. Chop fresh herbs to increase the maceration surface

  2. Put all ingredients in a saucepan, and bring the liquid to a simmer over medium heat

  3. Stir often, until the sugar is completely dissolved and the liquid begins to thicken

  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and set it aside, allowing the thyme and sage to steep for 30 minutes to 1 hour.

  5. Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean jar

  6. This may be stored in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

  7. Or you can heat the syrup to 75 degrees C, pour it hot in a jar, close and put it under a blanket for 24h. This should last longer.

Usage

Take 1-2 teaspoons of the thyme, and sage cough syrup as needed to soothe cough and sore throat. Shake the bottle before each use.
