Marigold Skin eczema Wound Healing

Calendula ointment, made from the flowers of the calendula plant (Calendula officinalis), is known for its soothing and healing properties. It's often used topically to treat minor skin irritations, wounds, rashes, and inflammation. Here's a simple recipe to make calendula ointment at home:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup dried calendula flowers

  • 1 cup carrier oil (e.g., olive oil, sunflower oil, coconut oil, or sweet almond oil)

  • 1-2 tablespoons grated beeswax (for consistency)

  • Optional: Essential oils for added benefits and fragrance (e.g., lavender, tea tree)

Instructions:

  1. Infuse the Oil:

    • Place the dried calendula flowers in a clean, dry glass jar.

    • Pour the carrier oil over the calendula flowers, ensuring they are fully submerged.

    • Stir to release air bubbles.

    • Seal the jar and place it in a warm place for 4-6 weeks to allow the oil to infuse with the calendula. Shake the jar gently every day.

  2. Strain the Infused Oil:

    • After the infusion period, strain the oil through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a clean bowl to separate the infused oil from the calendula flowers.

  3. Prepare the Ointment:

    • Transfer the infused oil to a clean saucepan and warm it over low heat.

    • Add the grated beeswax to the warm oil and stir until the beeswax is completely melted.

  4. Check Consistency and Adjust:

    • To check the consistency, place a small spoonful of the mixture on a plate and let it cool for a minute. If the consistency is too soft or too hard, adjust by adding more beeswax or oil accordingly.

  5. Optional: Add Essential Oils:

    • If desired, add a few drops of essential oils for fragrance and additional benefits. Stir well to combine.

  6. Transfer to Containers:

    • Pour the mixture into clean, airtight containers (e.g., small jars or tins) and let it cool and solidify.

  7. Store and Use:

    • Seal the containers and store the calendula ointment in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. It should last for several months.

Apply the calendula ointment topically to affected areas of the skin as needed for soothing and healing effects. Always patch-test a small amount on your skin to ensure no allergic reactions before widespread use. If any adverse reactions occur, discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional.
